Why a silk durag is worth it
Silk is a natural protein fibre with a smooth, low-friction surface. Hair slides across it instead of catching, which means less snagging, less lint transfer and less moisture pulled out of your hair overnight. It is also gentle on skin, which is why the Elite Wrap is made from hypoallergenic silk.
The part that helps your hair is the surface
What protects hair overnight is the smoothness of the surface touching it. Silk gives you that smooth face naturally: cotton and rougher weaves grab at hair, silk lets it move.
Silk also breathes. For a piece you wear nightly, that matters for comfort as much as it does for your hair.
What to look for in a durag
Check the surface first, it should feel slick, not fuzzy. Check the seams, because a raised seam across the forehead leaves a line. Check the ties, since thin ties dig in and thick ones hold better with less pressure.
Then check the cut. This is where most durags fail people with longer hair, and no fabric upgrade fixes a shape that was never made for volume.
Fabric will not fix fit
If your twists, braids or locs are being flattened against your forehead, fabric alone will not solve that. The Elite Wrap is hypoallergenic silk, and it changes the shape too: a flap sewn into the base gives the length room to sit and lets you position hair away from the face.
The base, flap and ties are all part of the same wrap. Hand wash cold, air dry, skip the dryer and the iron.
