Built for the styles it was never designed for.
Elite Wrap Co. started on a random night, twists in, durag on. Every few minutes I'd catch myself pulling at the fabric because it was pressing straight into my forehead. And it wasn't just annoying in the moment, I knew exactly what I'd wake up to. That pressure sitting on my skin all night meant a breakout by morning, guaranteed.
I looked at the durag and realized the problem wasn't me, it was the design. Durags are cut for hair that lays flat against the scalp. Twists, braids, locs, curls, none of that was ever accounted for, so the fabric just gets forced down onto your skin instead of sitting where it should. So I started sketching a fix: a flap sewn into the base that gives that extra volume somewhere to go instead of getting crushed against your face.
It's not a separate piece you snap on. It's stitched into the wrap, sits under the main fabric, and you push it into position instead of taking it off. That's the actual difference, a durag built around how the hair actually sits instead of ignoring it.
The problem with a traditional durag
Traditional durags were not designed around the experience of wearing longer twists, braids and locs. Longer hair can rest against the face and transfer oil, styling product and everyday buildup to the skin. The Elite Wrap was created to place a barrier between the hair and face while maintaining the familiar fit of a silk durag.
That is the entire reason for the flap. It is sewn into the base rather than clipped on, so you guide your hair through the opening, tie the wrap the way you always have, then position the flap between your hair and your face. A silk durag for longer hair, made for locs, braids and twists rather than adapted to them.
